ACC sensitive claims counselling

You can come directly to us for fully funded trauma support in Auckland. There is no need to visit a GP first, contact ACC, or have an existing claim number. We handle the paperwork for you, and funded sessions begin straight away while ACC considers your claim. You do not have to recount what happened before you are ready, you never have to make a Police report, and it does not matter how long ago it occurred.

If a phone call feels like too much right now, email us instead at [[email]] and we will reply that way.

Frequently asked questions

Starting an ACC sensitive claim can feel daunting, so we keep every step as gentle and transparent as possible. Here is everything you need to know about starting counselling, how funding works, and what to expect along the way.

Do I need a referral from my GP or an existing ACC number?

No. You can self-refer directly to us. Self-referral is an accepted pathway into ACC's Sensitive Claims Service. We take care of all the forms and administrative lodgement with ACC, so you do not need to arrange a doctor's visit or contact ACC beforehand.

What are the first steps to get started?

First, reach out for a free 15-minute phone call or send an email. Next, we meet for an initial conversation lasting up to two hours, which is fully funded and carries no obligation to continue. Afterwards, we lodge the paperwork to open your claim, ACC provides a brief welcome call, and your funded sessions start right away.

What if I already have an open claim or another provider?

If you already have an existing ACC sensitive claim number or have worked with another counsellor or therapist, simply let us know. We can easily arrange the transfer paperwork and pick up your support from where you are.

Who is this service available to?

Our ACC sensitive claims counselling service is dedicated to supporting adults residing in New Zealand.

Will I have to talk about what happened right away?

Not at all. You never have to share anything before you feel ready. Our first conversation focuses entirely on what support might help you right now, rather than delving into past details. You are also very welcome to bring a support person to any appointment, and we will always move at your pace.

How does the funding work, and are there any costs?

Counselling through ACC's Sensitive Claims Service is fully funded. There are no session fees, no co-payments, and nothing to claim back. Sessions are approved in stages: immediate sessions start before a cover decision, followed by a tailored support package often covering well over a year of regular sessions, plus additional allowances if needs arise later.

Can I see what is written about me before it goes to ACC?

Yes, absolutely. We draft all required ACC documentation and review everything with you before submitting it. Nothing is ever sent to ACC that you have not seen and approved beforehand.

What happens if I need to cancel or miss an appointment?

As long as you give us at least two working days' notice, there is no fee. ACC covers a limited allowance of short-notice cancellations; if those are used up, a fee may apply. We provide our cancellation policy clearly in writing before we begin so there are never any surprises.
